Directory transparency

How /discover ranks campaigns

The /discover directory lists open paid clipping campaigns: those of clipping platforms, collected every day from their public pages, and those launched on StreamClipping. Here is how the order of the cards is decided, what the team picks, and what is paid for.

What is in the directory

Only open campaigns are listed. A campaign that disappears from its source, ends or is withdrawn stops appearing. Gambling campaigns are never listed, neither for free nor for payment. No payment brings a campaign into the directory or keeps it there.

The default order of the grid (“Newest”)

In the default order, with or without a search or a filter (they only remove the campaigns that do not match), the grid follows these rules:

  1. platform campaigns and campaigns launched on StreamClipping are each ranked separately, in the same order: first those the StreamClipping team has put in the top banner, then those put in “Featured” (they also stay in the grid);
  2. then the others, from newest to oldest (date first collected for platforms, creation date for StreamClipping campaigns);
  3. campaigns launched on StreamClipping, which carry the label “StreamClipping campaign”, are then interleaved at fixed positions among the platform campaigns: one every 5 cards, starting with the first.

The other sorts

You can sort the grid yourself, across the whole directory:

  • budget left: the budget not yet spent, from highest to lowest;
  • reward: the pay per 1,000 views, from highest to lowest;
  • ending soon: the share of the budget already spent, from highest to lowest.

Amounts in different currencies are compared after an approximate conversion to dollars. With one of these sorts, the order is purely numerical: StreamClipping campaigns are no longer interleaved. With one of these sorts, a search or a filter, no paid ad is inserted into the grid. Above the grid, the top banner and “Featured” do not change with a sort and keep their paid slots; a search or a filter hides “Featured”, while the top banner stays.

Editorial picks

The StreamClipping team chooses, free of charge and at its sole discretion, the campaigns of the top banner (large banner at the top of the page) and of “Featured” (carousel under the banner). The top banner shows 5 at most: if the team chooses more, campaigns launched on StreamClipping are kept first. Its first slide changes every 2 minutes among the kept campaigns that have an image (all of them, if none has one), whether they come from StreamClipping or from a platform; the others follow, StreamClipping campaigns first. “Featured” shows up to 10, without repeating those of the top banner: StreamClipping campaigns first, then the others, each group ranked by number of clippers, from most to fewest. No payment can buy this editorial choice.

Platforms and brands that own a listed campaign can pay to show it in reserved slots. Each paid card carries the label “Sponsored by” followed by the advertiser's name.

How the auction allocates the slots. For each area, advertisers set the maximum price they agree to pay per click. Ads are ranked by a score equal to that price multiplied by their quality. Quality is the ad's rate of human clicks in that area over the last 30 days. It is smoothed: a new ad starts from a neutral value, and quality stays between 0.25 and 4. An ad that visitors find useful can therefore rank above an ad that pays more. The advertiser pays the lowest price that keeps its slot against the next one, never more than its maximum price, and never less than €0.20 excluding VAT per click. The ranking is recomputed every minute.

What the auction does not do. It uses no data about you: at any given moment, all visitors see the same ads. It changes neither the order of unpaid cards, nor the editorial picks, nor the results of a search, a filter or a sort. A paid card is never counted among the directory's results, nor described as unpaid to search engines. When a paid card repeats a campaign already shown in the same area, the unpaid copy is removed from that area so that it is not shown twice.

What is excluded from paid slots

  • gambling, excluded from the whole directory;
  • forex and leveraged trading, speculative crypto-assets, prediction markets, adult content and pyramid selling;
  • ended or withdrawn campaigns: an ad whose campaign is no longer open stops being shown at once;
  • any campaign whose advertiser has not proven that it owns it. A card has only one advertiser at a time.

Who gets paid, and how

  • Paid slots: the advertiser pays StreamClipping for each verified human click on its ad. Robot clicks, duplicates and over-budget clicks are not billed.
  • StreamClipping campaigns: StreamClipping is paid by the brands that launch a campaign on it (see the Clipping Program Terms). That is why, on /discover, these campaigns carry the label “StreamClipping campaign” on their card, in the top banner and on their page, and their position is described above.
  • Platform campaigns: StreamClipping receives nothing from the listed platforms, except when they pay for a sponsored slot, labelled “Sponsored by”. StreamClipping takes no commission on what you earn with them.
